How it works

What happens after you report

01

Report it

Use the form, call, or email. Tell us who you are, the policy or bond number, the parties involved, and what happened.

02

We confirm receipt

You get an email confirmation as soon as you submit the form. Our team reviews the file and routes it to the right specialist, surety or insurance.

03

We work the file

We contact you for anything missing and explain the next steps under your policy or bond.

Choose your path

Bond claim or insurance claim? They work differently.

Surety is credit, not insurance. A bond claim is assessed against the bond terms and the contractor’s obligations. An insurance claim is assessed against the policy wording. Start on the right path and the file moves faster.

Surety

Surety bond claims

For owners, obligees, subcontractors, and suppliers making a claim on a performance, labour and material payment, or commercial bond.

Have this ready

  • Bond number, if you have it
  • Principal (contractor) and obligee names
  • Contract, project name, and location
  • Amount claimed, with invoices or statements
  • Key dates: default, last work or materials supplied, notices sent

Payment bond claims often carry strict notice deadlines in the bond wording and provincial law. Report as early as you can.

Insurance

Insurance claims

For E&O, Legal Expense, Course of Construction, Builder’s Renovation, Vacant Property, and other policies placed through Approved Casualty & Surety.

Have this ready

  • Policy number and named insured
  • Date, time, and location of the loss
  • What happened, in plain terms
  • Photos, demand letters, or a statement of claim
  • Contact details for anyone else involved

Received a demand letter or lawsuit? Report it right away, before you respond.

Before you hear from us

Protect the claim from day one

Report early

Policies and bonds carry notice conditions. Late notice can put coverage or a bond claim at risk.

Don't admit fault

Avoid admitting liability or offering payment before you speak with us.

Keep the evidence

Save photos, emails, contracts, and damaged items. Take reasonable steps to prevent further damage.

Track your costs

Keep receipts and invoices for emergency repairs and any extra expenses tied to the loss.

Your team

The underwriters behind your file

Your claim lands with people who know the policies and bonds we place. Call the main line any time and ask for them by name.

FAQ

Claims questions, answered

Don’t see your question? Call 1-877-495-8777 or email claims@approvedcasualty.com.

Who can report a claim?

Brokers, policyholders, bond principals, and anyone making a claim against a bond placed through Approved Casualty & Surety, including owners, obligees, subcontractors, and suppliers. Choose your role at the start of the form.

I'm a broker. Can I report a claim for my client?

Yes. Select “A broker reporting for a client,” add your client as the named insured or principal, and tell us who we should contact.

What happens after I submit?

You get an email confirming we received your claim. Our team reviews it, routes it to the right specialist, and contacts you about next steps.

Is a bond claim the same as an insurance claim?

No. A surety bond is a form of credit. The surety assesses the claim against the bond terms and the principal's obligations, and the principal stays responsible for the debt. Insurance claims are assessed against the policy wording.

What if it's after hours?

Call 1-877-495-8777. A live receptionist answers 24/7 and passes your details to our team. You can also submit the online form any time.

What files can I upload?

PDF, Word, Excel, and image files, up to 10 MB each and 10 files per claim. Have something larger? Mention it in the description and we will arrange another way to receive it.

Does reporting a claim mean it's covered?

No. Every claim is reviewed against the policy or bond terms. Reporting early protects your position while that review happens.

Ready to report a claim?
